  2. Crunchy foods

Chewing helps break the plaque that is accumulated in the mouth and works as an effective cleansing technique. When you eat crunchy foods, it requires you to chew more number of times than when you eat soft foods. Also, when you chew more, you salivate more. This also helps cleanse the bacteria from the mouth. This is why chewing sugar-free chewing gums are also considered as a good way to maintain oral hygiene.

  3. Cheese

Here are the most common questions that concern people when they are considering opting for teeth whitening.

Q: Can I use the over-the-counter teeth whitening strips instead of going to a dentist?
A: Of course you can. But teeth whitening toothpaste or strips aren’t as effective as the treatment done by a professional dentist. This is because the dentist uses a stronger bleaching agent and hence the result is better. This stronger bleaching agent cannot be used in the over-the-counter products as it becomes a safety issue.

Q: Is teeth whitening a time-consuming process?
A:
When you visit the dentist for a teeth whitening appointment, you can be out of there with whiter teeth in an hour. Some people might require a second sitting, but that is it. However, over-the-counter products take days or even weeks sometimes to show results.

Q: Is teeth whitening a painful process?
A:
No. This patient does not require any form of anesthesia while undergoing a teeth whitening treatment. The only discomfort you might experience is a little sensitivity for a day or two after the procedure.

Q: Will teeth whitening damage my teeth?
A:
No. The quantity and strength of the bleaching agent used during the teeth whitening process have been tested over the years and have been considered safe by many different health departments across the globe. However, overuse of bleaching agents can cause the enamel to become thin and hence weak. This is why it is important to consult a professional and know when this process is going to start causing trouble.

Q: How long do the effects of teeth whitening last?
A:
No teeth whitening method can promise you white teeth forever. But a procedure done by a professional dentist guarantees the longest results. This result differs from one individual to another and in some best cases can also last up to 2 years.

Q: Will teeth whitening affect my fillings and crowns?
A:
No. Teeth whitening does not have any effect on your crowns. However, in some cases, it can cause the filling in your tooth to become a little loose. This is why it is best to consult your dentist beforehand about any existing fillings.

Q: Is age a factor in deciding whether I should or should not opt for teeth whitening?
A: Children as young as 10 years can choose to get their teeth whitened
at the dentists’. It is better to get it done at a young age so that they do not have to go through the embarrassment of discolored teeth in high school. In fact, at a young age, they do not even experience any sensitivity after the procedure. Also, there is no particular upper limit for this treatment. The only condition is that no tooth nerve should be exposed.

Keep Bad Breath Away… Bring People Closer

Bad breath is one of the biggest turn-offs ever. I know people who absolutely cannot stand a stinking mouth and can walk out amidst a conversation because it is bothering them so much. But isn’t it difficult to always have a fresh breath?

We are out and about the entire day, eating different kinds of foods and drinking beverages, that all lead to bad breath. And if you are a smoker, having a mouth that does not stink feels like a distant dream. If you are one such person, who is always conscious about their breath,

Dentist.

follow these easy tips from dental experts to ensure that your mouth always smells good.

1. Brush your teeth. This is something we have been hearing since the time we had only one tooth. And this is truly the best mantra to have good teeth and maintain overall dental hygiene. If your teeth are clean, you won’t even have bad breath issues. Some people have oral bad odor problems more than others. If you are one such person, you need to brush more often, say after every meal.

2. Along with brushing, flossing is equally important. This is because there are some places between the teeth where food gets stuck and the toothbrush cannot reach there. When you floss, you remove these food particles and also other contaminants that can damage your teeth. Using mouthwash can also ensure that your breath feels fresh.

3. Bacteria get collected on the surface of our tongues, especially the top rough surface. This can also be a reason for bad breath. This is why you must clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner every single day.

4. Avoiding some food items that cause bad breath, like onion and garlic, is also a smart way of controlling bad mouth odor. Also, avoid food and beverages that contain high amounts of sugar as sugar ferments bacteria.

Senior Male

5. Eating certain fruits and vegetables like apples, lettuce, carrots, pears and raw cucumber can aid fresh breath. These also have antioxidants that boost dental health.

6. Chewing gum increases the flow of saliva in the mouth, which washes the bacteria away. Ensure that you chew sugarless gum. Chewing gum is also a good alternative to mints that are full of sugar and hence aid bacteria. Ironical isn’t it?

7. Drinking water throughout the day is a very healthy habit. It has many health benefits; it keeps your skin and hair looking great and also can help battle bad breath. This is because dehydration also causes our breath to smell foul.

8. Avoid drinking a lot of coffee as it not only damages and stains your teeth, but also makes your breath smell funny. Tobacco is also something that you must completely avoid if you want healthy teeth and want to stay cancer-free, of course.

Keeping bad breath away basically requires you to take care of your teeth and gums and maintain good oral hygiene. You must also visit a family dentist in Burlington regularly to make sure that your teeth are healthy, shiny and your breath is pleasant.

Dental Experts Spill the Secrets for Maintaining Best Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is something that we all are always conscious about. We do not want to be in a situation where we are talking to someone and they instantly turn away. How embarrassing would that be!

Imagine if you are on your first date and after the meal, you are about to experience your first kiss and the constant thing going on in your mind is ‘I shouldn’t have eaten the garlic shrimp’. Well, that does not have to be the case. Here are a few tips for expert dentists that will help you keep your mouth healthy and avoid such uncomfortable situations.

Young woman at dentist's office

Things you should do

The rule of thumb for good oral hygiene is brushing. Brush thoroughly, twice a day. When you brush, make sure that you are brushing not only your teeth but also your gums. Do not brush very aggressively, though, as this can hurt your teeth and gums and cause bleeding.

1. The second thing you must always remember is flossing. This is something that most of us forget as we do not know how important this small task can be. Simply brushing will not remove the small food particles stuck in between your teeth. Flossing can help remove these and other harmful substances as it reaches way deeper than where you toothbrush bristles can.

2. We all know the many health benefits of consuming milk, but did you know that milk is also good for your teeth? Consuming milk, orange juice, yogurt, broccoli, cheese, and other such dairy products help make the teeth stronger as they contain calcium. Apart from calcium, these food items also contain Vitamin D, which is necessary for maintaining healthy gums and teeth and Vitamin B complex, which protects gums and teeth from cracking and bleeding. Copper, zinc, iodine, iron and potassium, which are responsible for good dental hygiene, are also present in these products.

3. The next step to maintaining oral hygiene is cleaning the surface of your tongue daily. Use a professional tongue cleaner to remove the countless bacteria that live on the rougher top surface of your tongue. These are responsible for bad breath and also have a negative effect on your overall dental health.

Things you should avoid

1. Tobacco not only damages our body internally to a great extent but also ruins our teeth. It leaves the teeth stained and also damaged.

2. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘too much of something is not a good thing’? That is exactly true in the case of coffee and sodas. These beverages have a mineral called phosphorous, which is very good for the teeth. But, the level in these beverages as well as in alcohol is very high and hence can damage the teeth. Some of these liquids also have corn syrup and food dye, which causes discoloration and dullness in teeth.

Apart from these tips, always remember to visit your dentist for regular dental check-ups. Also, if you have a toothache, do not ignore it. You must get it checked immediately at any modern family dentistry so that it does not become a major problem and cause too much damage to your pearly whites.

Be careful how your treat your teeth. They can be sensitive too.

Yes. It’s true. Just like our hearts, our teeth can be sensitive too. And just like the problems of the heart, the problems that sensitive teeth can cause can also make our lives troublesome. It can really make it difficult to eat or drink and also make your nights sleepless.

I know it all does sound like something we would go through after a break-up. But I am sure those of you who have sensitive teeth will agree with me. Sensitive teeth literally make it difficult to enjoy the simple pleasures of life like a hot cup of coffee or a cup of delicious ice-cream.

What causes sensitivity in teeth?

dentist-examining-a-patient-s-teeth_1098-568-608x0-is

If we brush our teeth too hard or have damaged or decayed teeth, the gums of our teeth pull back and do not cover the surface of the teeth anymore. This exposes the dentin, which has many tiny tubes that are linked to the nerve centre of the teeth. Hence, cold, hot and sweet food reaches the nerves of the tooth and that is what causes sensitivity.

How to prevent sensitivity in teeth?

1. This goes without saying that you should brush twice daily. But make sure that you do not brush aggressively or use a brush with hard bristles. Also, use toothpaste that is made for sensitive teeth. These kinds of toothpaste have an active ingredient called potassium nitrate that helps block the tiny tubules in the dentin. Clean your mouth effectively by rinsing it with a fluoride and antiseptic mouthwash every day. Also flossing your teeth can help maintain good oral hygiene.

2. Avoid acidic foods as these can cause the tooth enamel to wear off. Try to use a straw when drinking soda so that it does not come in contact with the teeth. Also, do not brush immediately after consuming acidic food as this makes the enamel soft and can cause further damage to the teeth.
young-woman-visiting-the-dentist_1098-1552-608x0-is

3. Do not grind your teeth as this can directly result in teeth sensitivity. Sometimes, people grind their teeth in their sleep. Even though there is no way of finding out if you do so, there are some clues that you could look out for, like early morning headaches and unexplained jaw aches. If you experience these, wearing a mouth guard is a good solution. This is will stop you from grinding your teeth in your sleep and will avoid your teeth from being damaged.

6 Simple tips to keep your teeth pearly white

Have you noticed some people who do not smile freely when being clicked? We all know the reason for that, don’t we? It is the yellow stains on their teeth. Your smile is such an important aspect of your personality and not being able to share that with the world is like holding back. If you follow these 10 simple tips, you never have to hide your teeth again.

This goes without saying that you need to brush your teeth twice a day. If you drink a lot of coffee, you should brush more often. There are certain foods that cause the teeth to stain. If you consume any of these food items, it is advisable to brush immediately. This will help you teeth stay whiter naturally.55_brush-18729_960_720.456x0-is
Apple Cider Vinegar works great as a stain remover too. It can even remove the stubborn stains left on the teeth due to smoking and drinking coffee. The only drawback though is that it takes some time to show results. You will have to wait at least a month before you can start seeing whiter teeth.

Using coconut oil is another natural way of keeping teeth whiter. A theory suggests that if you apply coconut oil to your teeth after you brush, twice a day, your teeth can become whiter. You can also put a few drops of this oil on your toothbrush and brush your teeth with it.

Coconut oil also has antimicrobial properties and hence can make your gums healthy too.f you have already done damage to your teeth, you have use teeth whiteners to make them shiny again. If you do not want to use the whiteners that are available in the market, you can even prepare one at home using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.

Mix small amounts of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda and make it into a paste. Make sure that you add enough hydrogen peroxide to this mix as too much baking soda can damage the enamel of the tooth. Use this paste to brush your teeth. Hydrogen peroxide also has anti-bacterial properties and hence kills the germs in your mouth and keeps the gums cleaner.

Certain foods help in whitening your teeth. Eating apples, spinach, broccoli, celery and carrots can actually reduce the stains on the teeth and make them whiter. A few celebrities have also promoted strawberries as an effective teeth whitening formula. But in this case, you do not have to eat it, but rather squish them and rub it over your teeth.

55_apple-18302_960_720.600x0-is

A smart way of avoiding teeth staining is to drink through a straw. Liquids like red wine and cranberry juice can stain the teeth. When you consume these beverages using a straw, they do not come in contact with the teeth and hence cannot cause them to stain.

Many of these treatments take some time to show results. If you want instant teeth whitening, you should consult a dentist. In the meanwhile, you can use a few tricks to make your teeth appear whiter. Choosing a darker shade of lipstick can make your teeth look more yellow, whereas wearing diamonds can highlight the whiteness of your teeth.

My dental treatment made me say “NO MORE TOOTH ACHES!”

That Monday morning, when I sat for breakfast, my hand went on my cheek putting a force on my molar tooth and my wife found me saying, “Ouch! This tooth is killing me big time!”

Young man suffers from tooth ache, indian man and tooth ache, as

We both believed that it must be because of the overload of chocolate and ice cream that I had last night. I felt awkward for the first time because of my sweet tooth. I’d always savored sweet eatables but, thought I should reduce the frequency now considering the intensity of the soreness I felt. I did have a ‘mild sensitivity problem’ for which I resolved to use a toothpaste formulated to care for sensitive teeth to get over with it but, this time, it was quite different and definitely more aching.

Anyway, my wife gave me a few cloves and asked me to compress it between my teeth every once in a while whenever I felt the pain. I found myself chewing clove all the time even in the office. This continued for three or four more days until my secretary told me that it was high time I consulted a dentist because too much clove is also not good for health especially when it is not helping the tooth to be alright.

So, finally my wife researched and we decided to go the Ralhan Dentist in Burlington to get my tooth diagnosed.

50_orthodontist-287285_960_720.600x0-is

We met Dr. Anil Ralhan and he assured me that whatever it is with my tooth, I will gradually be relieved of all the troubles and pain. After the diagnose, they found out that the pulp had become infected. My wife got a little worried when the Dr. told that I needed a root canal. But, without any ado, we went along with the surgery as they explained us properly why it was necessary. They told us that this therapy has the power to prevent teeth from experiencing further damage down the road as it involves cleaning and disinfecting the inside of the tooth. Hence, it was undoubtedly the best thing to remove my toothache, permanently.

Then finally, on a nice Saturday morning I had my root canal done. I saw the cap being made on the same day as my root canal. This made me not to wear a temporary cap and then come back again for the permanent one. The pain was definitely lesser than that I thought I’d have. I was amazed at such a prompt and personal care. Now, after restoration, my tooth functions just properly and let alone the pain, even my sensitivity is non-existent.

You don’t go to a dentist often. So, when you do go to one, choose wisely. No need to avoid chocolates and ice creams anymore, because no more tooth aches!
